If Only Tears Could Change What Happened

Like millions of others across the country, what I keep thinking about is what happened in Newton, Connecticut. And maybe other topics would push this one from our minds, but what seems most appropriate is a post of silence. So here's to those beautiful, innocent children, their heroic teachers, and all their heartbroken families.

I know it's horrible what happened down there. I really don't get why someone would do that there's some horrible people in this world.

We said this prayer at church today: http://maxlucado.com/read/blog/a-christmas-prayer/. Sharing in case it brings others some small comfort.

I briefly lived with my nephews when they were 6 and 8; memories of how joyful and innocent they were then keep flashing through my mind. When I start to get overwhelmed by the news, I focus on the heroic stories of the teachers. As Mr. Rogers said, "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.' To this day, especially in times of 'disaster,' I remember my mother's words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world."

That's so true Jessica. My uncle was really upset about it. To bad you can't go back in time and changed what happened that day.

I'm glad the Mr. Rogers quote is circulating. I think it's so apt and true. We need to focus on the helpers and be helpers however we can.

It's so sad and it makes me cry when i think about it... Its sad when someone old dies but its life, but when a child who has barely begun to live doesnt get to keep living it's heartbreaking. I'll never understand the man that did this because nothing ever justifies that. Nothing.I want to help those families however i can because i cant imagine what they're going through. Those teachers that were so heroic should always be remembered as shall the innocent children...
I'll keep praying for them.

This was really sad for me because all I could think of was my nephew Lucas who is in first grade and could have been in one of the classes. I really like the mr. Rogers quote.

My friend shared with me the song "Not Far Apart" by Ryan Kelly; it's a religious Christmas song that offers comfort for those missing loved ones:

"Think of all the good times
we spent around this time.
No one can take those memories;
they're just yours and mine.
So have a Merry Christmas.
Wipe away that tear.
Remember that I'm spending Christmas
with Jesus Christ this year."

I'm in speechless depression, may the children and teachers be remembered with pride, sympathy, and innocence.

I really like the Mr.Rogers quote, may we all be helpers and help others become helpers too.

This terrible thing has caused so much heartbreak across the US, and in many other places. I feel so bad for the children, and the man commited a crime he should never be forgiven for. Yusa is right; their lives have barely begun. It is a terrible thought to strip someone of the chance of becoming someone great, or even just living life to the fullest. The teachers were very heroic. Jessica's song is wonderful
