Recruited!

We've been recruited!

The 'we' is the family rock band. Which (for those of you who are uninitiated) sounds epically dorky, I know.

But we're not!

We're actually pretty good.

And we'll be playing a few songs at the Sammy Keyes Party on October 4th. (There'll be a house band that night and they'll lend us their gear which is epically nice, as any musician will tell you.)

Some of the songs will have Sammy-fied lyrics, and all are dedicated to certain characters.

Hmmm...actually...it would be fun to have you guess the songs. Although there are probably hundreds of songs that would apply. And probably no one'll guess the ones we're doing. But still, it would be fun to put it out there for your guesses, if you want to play along!

To narrow things down, we are a rock band. Not much bubblegum pop happening here.

So pick a song you think fits...

1) Marissa + Danny (as in her not being able to break away from him)
2) Sammy! (as an everyday girl stirring up trouble!)
3) Lucky Me to Sammiacs
4) Heather's Explanation (you will never get this!)

We'll also be doing Beatles' Birthday for the people who are coming for their birthday (so you need to let us know if that includes you), and the revamped (and greatly improved) Sammy Keyes song (full version+conga line dance break!).

Also, I'm super excited because I've got two Random House peeps who've agreed to sing backup! The purple boas are coming out!

So why aren't you coming to this party?

Oh, I know. Distance. Cost. Time. I do understand!

But play along and guess some songs. It'll be fun to see what matches you make!

As always, thanks for checking in--see you in the comments!

Okay, Wendelin, this needs to be livestreamed for those of us who can't attend! Seriously! Or at the very least recorded and uploaded on Youtube somewhere. Or I need to start looking for giveaways for free airline tickets...

I would love to hear "Waitin' for Rain to Fall" (at least the guitar riff, which my brain couldn't translate into music).

Okay, here are the first songs that popped into my head for these (I've never paid attention to genres, so... probably many aren't rock):

1) Marissa and Danny: "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out of" by U2. ("I never thought you were a fool, but darling, look at you. You've got to stand up straight, carry your own weight; these tears are going nowhere, baby. You've got to get yourself together; you've got stuck in a moment, and now you can't get out of it.... The nights you filled with flowers, they left you with nothing.... You are such a fool to worry like you do. I know it's tough, and you can never get enough of what you don't really need now.") Or maybe "Stupid Girl" by Garbage.

2) Sammy: "Not a Pretty Girl" by Ani DiFranco. "Just a Girl" by No Doubt. "32 Flavors" by Ani DiFranco. "Who I Am" by Jessica Andrews (yeah, I know, it's country... but it's rockish, belt-alongable country). "When I Was a Boy" by Dar Williams. "She" by Green Day. "Tryin' to Throw Your Arms Around the World" by U2. And that song that I know is perfect and can't think of... you know... that one.

3) I'm not sure what this means...

4) Nor this...

Bonus: Lady Lana: "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" by U2 (at least the first two verses).

Bonus: Holly: "Fading Like a Flower" by Roxette.

Oh, and my birthday is less than a month after the thing. But nearly a full month later. Plus I won't be there...

Oh, and the perfect song for "Kiss Goodbye" (well, once you adapt the lyrics...): "I Wonder What Would Happen to This World" by Harry Chapin (though I prefer his daughter Jen Chapin's awesomely bluesy version).

YOu are so quick, Jessica! I laughed aloud at "Stupid Girl" :-)

These summer days have me really messed up. I keep forgetting that it is Sunday.

I honestly have no clue for the songs. I really don't know many songs in that genre. But from what Jessica guessed and the lyrics she provided it sounds like to me that she is pretty close (but what do I know).

I really wish I could go to this! It sounds like it is going to be a blast! But hopefully I will be able to see you in Chico!

Have a great week everyone! I am going to go look up some of the songs Jessica said.

October 4th is my birthday, but I can't be there. Maybe you could just wish me a happy bday at the party? :) I agree with Jessica, you should video tape it!

I know next to nothing about rock 'n' roll, but Jessica's suggestions sound pretty good. It would be fun if you played some Elvis, too!

Love all the songs! There are a few I need to look up :-) But good choices, guys!

I will admit to a U2 song among the planned selections.

Marissa and Danny:
I Hate Everything About You, by Three Days' Grace (I hate everything about you, why do I love you?)

I like Yusa's and Sean's song choices too. So many great songs! As I've been listening to music this week (and started rereading all the SK from the beginning), I've come up with a few more:

Marissa: "Just Be Good to Me" by The S.O.S. Band, "Cruel to Be Kind" by Letters to Cleo

Sammy: "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett, "Rebel Girl" by Bikini Kill (funny because of the "most unusual style" award)

Sammiacs: "Closing Time" by Semisonic

Heather: "Your Winter" by Sister Hazel, "War" by the Cardigans, "Can't Stop" by Save Ferris, "Even Angels Fall" by Jessica Riddle, "Iris" by GooGoo Dolls (if you changed the first verse), "Fix You" by Coldplay, "Wonderwall" by Oasis, "I Want You to Want Me" by Letters to Cleo {still not sure what "Heather's Explanation means, so...}

And yes, I might have rewatched "10 Things I Hate about You" yesterday (at least half these songs are from that movie)...

I'm going for my birthday, but my birthday was in July? Super excited to see what the songs are! I would also loooooove to hear "Waitin' for the Rain to Fall" and "Nothing But Trouble"!!! The lyrics in the books always made me want to sing along with them, but I couldn't!
