"Life Actually"

Due to events of last week (which I might get to next Sunday) I'm simply posting my tour stops for the coming week in hopes that some of you are in one of these cities and can attend (and I can meet you in person!).

Oh, and here's a little bribe: there will be some ARCs of Sammy Keyes and the Killer Cruise given away at each stop.

This is a Random House tour called "Life Actually" which features authors of realistic fiction. Those authors will be Lurlene McDaniel, Tom Leveen, Elana Arnold and yours truly in Los Angeles, and Lurlene McDaniel, Dana Reinhardt and me in San Francisco.

LOS ANGELES
MONDAY, 5/20 @ 7:00 PM: Barnes & Noble @ The Grove, LA

TUESDAY, 5/21 @ 7:00 PM: Once Upon a Time, Montrose

SAN FRANCISCO
THURSDAY, 5/23 @ 7:00 PM: A Great Good Place for Books, Oakland

FRIDAY, 5/24 @ 7:30 PM: Kepler’s Books, Menlo Park

If you can make it, I'm happy to sign any books you already own, so don't be shy about bringing your collection.

Hope to see you in person, and if not, I'll meet you back here next Sunday.

As always, thanks for checking in!

I REALLY wish I lived in California!!! UGH!!! Of course just my luck! I would love to meet you Wendelin, but I don't live there! It KILLS ME that I can't meet you! I'm really tempted to move to California. Like nothing cool like that happens in Virginia. It seems like I live in the lamest place in the universe. Maybe one day I'll meet you...

Virginia, hm? I will keep my eyes open for opportunities in Virginia... (The Running Dream is on 20+ state lists, but I don't think Virginia is one of them.)

I swear, sometimes when it comes to people I really want to meet,it's like the universe never wants me to meet them! But I do one day want to go to California,I think it'd be cool.

I have no school on Friday! Maybe I can convince my mom to drive me to San Francisco! Or maybe to let my sister drive me! Plus an ARC copy would just be an added bonus! The "Life Actually" tour sounds like it would be so much fun! I heard of a few of those other authors.

Aw, Gabrielle, I grew up in Virginia. Plenty of exciting stuff happened there. (Okay, not really... the mayor liked to pop into our elementary school a lot, and a local writer visited -- she wrote "The Witch of Pungo," about the witch-ducking of Grace Sherwood, which is a pretty cool true story. Oh, and we had a visiting poet who taught all the English classes for a few days one year, but I don't remember her name or any of her poems. And Colin Powell spoke at my mom's community college graduation. But none of my favorite authors ever came near -- well, not until I got to meet Richard Preston in college. Even Halley's Comet slighted us.)

So yes, I agree, the East Coast is overdue for Wendelin Van Draanen (Memphis doesn't count). It still kills me that she was here in Atlanta, but the whole city was shut down.

It took all I had not to beg on FB for any of my friends near SF or LA to go try to win me an ARC (er, win themselves one and lend it to me). Kylie, I hope you get to go. Maybe you can pick Yusa up on the way.

This is an another reason for why I need my license. If only I didn't procrastinate and gotten my license in October of last year I could have drove myself down there.

Yusa: I wish I could pick you up! It would be so much fun! Sadly I don't believe that I will be able to attend. But I will not give up!

Your saying that cause of my SHOES? =) =) =) =)

Bella Honeydew! It was great to meet you in person! Thanks for coming out to the bookstore. Tell your dad he's a gem for driving so far. And now (everybody else moan and groan!) you have an ARC of Killer Cruise before the rest of the world does. Hope you have fun on the high seas with our favorite girl :-)

Bella, that is awesome! :-D

Wendelin, I hope you’re enjoying yourself! Have you ever been to City Lights Books in San Francisco? It’s my sisterish’s favorite bookstore ever (the children’s section in particular), you should visit when you get a chance. Oh, also, I didn’t get to tell you two weeks ago, but I really enjoyed reading about your Seinfeld Introduction to Plotting. :-)

I would actually rather wait until September for Killer Cruise, because if I got it now, January and Kiss Goodbye would be SO FAR AWAY.

(...Say, does Minnesota happen to be on that list of 20+ states?)

Karen said...

Oh, and speaking of Killer Cruise! Remember when you asked us to “Hit me with your best quote!” for the best shoes ever? (...That was almost a year ago, good grief, I have been lurking a long time.) Well, my brain automatically sang, Hit me with your best quote! Fire a-way-ay!. -- and then started shuffling through rock songs (because Casey has fun musical taste) to see what could be reworked Sammy-style, and...

These shoes are made for sleuthin’, and that’s just what they’ll do, One of these days these shoes are gonna sleuth all over you.

It’s making me giggle because I’m not quite sure what action “sleuthing all over you” would correspond to, but the phrasing is hilarious.

(Also Steph, if you still read this blog, I saw a comment in the archive saying you'd started a Sammy Keyes Master Playlist, and your blog doesn't exist anymore, but if you've still got a list lying around somewhere I'd really like to see it.)

...Come on, shoes. Start sleuthin'.

Yusa said...

Speaking of Steph i wish she would come back always fun reading her comments...

I have never had an ARC of a book before, so this will be really fun to read! =) I still have to go to school even though I want to stay home and read all day! I'm hope everyone will eventually get I chance to meet her she is amazing and really funny!!!=)=)

Ok so Wendelin here's a question- CAN YOU COME AND CHECK OUT SACRAMENTO?!?!? IT'S A NICE PLACE!
Also I felt the earthquake, and it's so funny, my brother, mom, and I are putting together this present my mom got, (which so far looks like a broken, deformed bike because some dude sat on it and squished it,) and my brother is fixing it. The I feel the quake and I say to my brother, "Moin stop, you're shaking the house." So it was really funny.
It'd be so fun to read an ARC book!!!
